Frequently Asked Questions
What's R-Value and why is it important?
The R-value on a garage door tells you how well it insulates. You might think that it is not important to insulate your garage, but there are several reasons why it's necessary. If you spend time in your garage or live in a cold climate and need to keep your car protected from harsh weather, then you need to be aware of the insulation rating of your garage door.
Be sure to check the R-value of a garage door before you buy. The higher the number, the better its insulation properties. For example, if you have a good quality 1-3/8" garage door, the R-value could be as high as 6.5. For a lower-priced door, with a 9/16" thickness, the R-value could be around 4.4.
Many garages connect to the rest of the house or may have a room above them and opting for an insulated garage door can produce a big difference in utility bills. Of course, if your garage isn't attached to your house and your climate is consistently mild, you can get a garage door with a low R-value, or even no insulation at all.
Can I paint a steel garage door?
The good news is that you can definitely paint a steel garage door. If you use a good quality latex paint, it'll last a long time. Very important... do not use an oil-based paint - it will bubble and peel off.
You can paint other garage doors, too. Wood garage doors look great when painted or stained. Fiberglass garage doors can be painted, too. The great thing about painting a garage door is that you can match it to the rest of your house.
What are the advantages of aluminum garage doors?
Aluminum garage doors are easy on the mechanical parts, because of their light weight. Therefore, they have an overall longer life. However, there isn't much difference between aluminum and steel garage doors if the door is 12 feet wide or less.
Another side benefit is when the garage door is finally worn out, aluminum is recyclable, which is really good for the environment.
I have worked with Robert Hines for years . They always stand behind the product and also fast and friendly service. Thanks for your help today. Another HAPPY CUSTOMER!
My wife and I decided to use Overhead Doors because the company I work for uses them and they have always been professional. We were very pleased with the service they provided. They were able to get out to our place in a couple days. Everything has been working great for the year we have had the openers.
Shane is a rock star!
Very nice techs and great customer service! I highly recommend.
Very friendly and service was fast for a walk in.
Had what we needed.
This is how I get in and out of my garage...in a 30-year-old house. They've kept it going all these years!
Just had Overhead Door out to fix a broken spring. They got here within 45 minutes of my call. Jeremy( I think that was his name, sorry if not) was very nice and professional and had both springs replaced in about 30 minutes. Only one spring was broken but I decided to have him replace both as the second was probably likely to break soon as well. Couldn't have gone better. Thanks.
Another company quoted us $1,700 to replace 2 springs and rollers. We sent them on their way and called these guys. The cost, including labor was less than $250. No rollers needed. The ladies on the phone were very nice and helpful. They've earned our business for life.
I have used this company many times. The staff in the office were very nice and helpful, gave me prices over the phone and answered all my questions!!! They had my door and operator installed in a week! I wouldn't use anyone else in tulsa!!
